Here’s how I deleted a very good draft, by mistake. So Irresponsible.

So, if you’ve opened this article, there is a chance that you have no clue as to what that title means, and curiosity led you here.

And honestly, I am not sure if people will even open this post to read it. They might, or maybe they won’t.

Here’s the scene, I wrote a draft (which I thought was wonderful), then I do some stuff (we’ll talk about that) and everything was gone. I lost the article forever.

Back to the same procrastination business —

For the past 10 days, I’ve been in a ‘procrastination’ phase’, and obviously I’m not proud of it. But it’s the truth.

I did not write much; I was wasting time watching TV shows and random YouTube videos that I wouldn’t ever use in my life. Thus, 10 days passed by and I didn’t even realize it. I only got to know when I checked when I last posted (19th August 2023 and today is 29th August 2023).

I was filled with guilt, I really was. In my head, I wanted to work hard and get over this period of burning time. But for some reason, when I would be alone, I would not be able to control myself and I’d just do the same thing all over again.

Rinse and Repeat type of stuff. Again, I wasn’t proud of it.

Then again, I don’t think any of the drug addicts out there like what they’re doing.

Now that you have some context, let’s move on to the main story.

Main Google Doc Story —

After feeling the guilt, I told myself I’d write one article. And so, I did. The article was complete and ready to publish, it was sitting in my Google Doc.

At the same time, I was facing this issue about Gmail storage being full. I did not know what to delete, everything seemed so important.

Then I came across my google drive (conveniently, google doc files are stored in the drive btw), and I saw random backed up files which I hadn’t seen in years.

I told myself, “Heck yea, I found the root of the problem. If I delete all this, I should be good to go.”

After deleting a bunch of files, I realized that there were too many files, I did not want to spend the entire day going through each file. So, I did what any SMART person would do. I mass-deleted the files, a lot of them.

Also know that while I was deleting all these files, I did not know the google doc, sheets and other files were stored in the drive. I guess I can be called a ‘newbie’, which is ironic because I’m from the ‘tech generation’… you know…

I saw a lot of free space on my account, and I was happy. “Finally, I don’t have to pay any extra money for storage”, I said. Little did I know that this was going to hit me harder than Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball.

Two days later, I open my Google Doc web app to access the article I had written a while back and to my surprise, it was missing.

I panicked, I searched everywhere, went to Google sheet to find my doc (lmao, noob).

Sat there at my table for a solid 10 minutes and then it clicked, I had the “aha!” moment. It all made sense.

When mass-deleting all my Google Drive files, I must have deleted the Google Doc by mistake! I can’t confirm it, but looking at my recent activity, it makes the most sense.

If it’s not that, then probably some alien stole it from my laptop.

Life Lesson —

Lesson learnt — Don’t mass delete your Google Account, because there’s probably some recent and important stuff in there which you might delete by mistake.
